Painted for a very special person for her 21st birthday, this painting is reflective, symbolic and hopeful. Her birthstone is the pearl and I wanted the painting to be about her birthstone but also about her entering adulthood. As the pearl is formed in the oyster by layers of nacre, a person reaches adulthood through years of experiences and life lessons. "The world is your oyster" is part of the message as the oyster shell is opening to the world that awaits her.
